Conclusions
The U.S. could improve its safety policy toward GMOs using the EU’s policies as reference. The U.S. would increase public awareness by instituting GMO specific regulations such as GMO labeling to allow consumers to be able to recognize GMOs when they are purchasing them. Setting traceability standards such as those promoted by farm-to-table oversight in the EU would allow the FDA to better track GMOs and their health impacts after release into the market. Federal endorsement of the scientific study of GMOs would also facilitate advancements in knowledge of GMOs, especially as the long-term health effects of GMOs may begin to surface in the years to come.
